El sonido de las semillas de ayoyote en los pies de los concheros invade cada parte de mi cuerpo; es una regresión al tiempo de mis antepasados.
En enero del 2023 comencé la travesía para traer al plano físico esta exhibición. Del color de mi tierra, es una exhibición sencilla. Con esta exhibición pretendo que podamos llegar a sanar un poquito y comencemos a amar más el color café bronceadito de nuestra piel.
Durante el proceso e investigación para la realización de esta exhibición, mi desasosiego fue constante. Me sentía mareada en el mar de nuestras culturas nativas, no solo las ubicadas en México; sino en todo el continente americano. Mientras buscaba información sobre mi cultura y mis raíces mexicanas, comprendí que no es un maleficio que una mezcla de sangres corra por mis venas; aunque ciertamente, para los pueblos nativos, lo mejor pudiera haber sido, o podría ser, mantener impoluta la sangre de la raza guerrera.
Durante siglos, los que venían de otros continentes se mezclaron con las mujeres nativas de América y entonces, a los hijos de estas mezclas nos comenzaron a clasificar... moro, mestizo, mulato, morisco, y algunos necios nos llamaron indios creyendo que habían llegado a las tierras de la India; hay un sinnúmero de clasificaciones para la mezcla de razas según los "ilustrados" de las épocas colonizadoras.
Leyendo tanta información me pregunté, ¿Y nosotros, qué somos? En qué nos convertimos después de siglos de colonización, clasismo, racismo, colorismo y denigración. Quiénes somos si nos forzaron a odiar nuestra negritud. Quiénes somos si cortaron nuestros lazos con la madre tierra; cortaron nuestros lazos con nuestros muertos, cortaron el vínculo de agradecimiento que teníamos con nuestros dioses y cortaron de tajo el sonido de nuestro lenguaje nativo. ¿Quiénes somos?... ¿Qué me hizo empezar a amar mi color a mis veintitantos?, quién me dijo que soy hermosamente prieta si desde niña, me enseñaron a odiar el color de mi piel; me enseñaron a detestar al que fuera más oscuro que yo. Vaya que yo era boba al creer que las palabras negra, morena, india o indígena eran insultos. Con toda esa herencia ancestral en mi piel y yo renegando de mis raíces; pero que podrías esperar de una adolescente enojada por no encajar con los estándares de belleza en los años noventa.
Hoy, con gratitud, en este punto de mi vida, siendo honesta, me acepto y me quiero siendo una mezcla; porque esta mezcla me heredó mi pelo ondulado, mis ojos negros, mis caderas anchas, mi hermosa piel bronceada y un tamaño petite... porque soy chiquita, pero picosa. Mis costumbres, mis raíces, y simbólicamente el lugar donde nací, me definen como orgullosamente mexicana... sí, orgullosa, y es que con el paso de los años, los mexicanos hemos fusionado de la manera más hermosa nuestra cultura ancestral y las costumbres que los colonizadores nos han impuesto.
Yo, soy mexicana. Tú, eres colombiano. Ella, es peruana... cubano, puertorriqueño, brasileña, chilena, ecuatoriano, salvadoreña… toda América somos una mezcla perfecta del pasado y el presente; somos nativos americanos, y la sangre guerrera de nuestras ancestras y nuestros ancestros predominó aún después de siglos de colonización. Somos la prueba viva de la gloria precolombina. Ama tu color café bronceadito.

Adriana es una artista de Chicago nacida en México. Desde niña tuvo inclinaciones artísticas; pero no fue hasta su llegada a los Estados Unidos, cuando comenzó a estudiar de manera autodidacta técnicas artísticas y a experimentar con tendencias estadounidenses también de arte visual.
Aún después de 25 años vividos fuera de su país; Adriana nunca perdió sus fuertes raíces mexicanas. Buscando calmar su profundo anhelo por su tierra natal; uso como principal terapia de sanación: técnicas de escritura, modelado, fotografía, arte digital, ilustración tradicional, bordado, pintura en lienzo y muralismo. Adriana ha producido obras de manera privada desde el año 2000 y no fue hasta 2013 que comenzó su carrera pública. Sus obras han sido exhibidas en: Centro Cultural Los Pinos, Aeropuerto del Estado de México, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo, Nueva York, Avenida Michigan en Chicago, Pilsen, Back of the yards, Berwyn, Aurora, Hyde Park Arts Center. Otros trabajos se encuentran en colecciones privadas en California, Washington, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Texas, Nevada y Michigan e internacionalmente Japón, Australia, España, Alemania y Ecuador. Actualmente, se dedica a seguir creando todo tipo de arte visual; pero también dedica gran parte de su tiempo a apoyar a su comunidad en Chicago, creando y dando talleres que acercan a las personas a sus raíces mexicanas.
Aunque su trabajo está inspirado en gran parte por el amor por México; también es una expresión de su creencia y admiración personal, así como de respeto y amor por la naturaleza. Estos elementos son parte esencial de sus obras de arte actuales. In January 2023 I began the journey to bring this exhibition to the physical level. The color of my land, it is a simple exhibition. With this exhibition I hope that we can heal a little and begin to love the tanned brown color of our skin more.
During the process and research to create this exhibition, my anxiety was constant. I felt dizzy in the sea of our native cultures, not just those located in Mexico; but throughout the American continent. While I was searching for information about my culture and my Mexican roots, I understood that it is not a curse that a mixture of blood runs through my veins; although certainly, for the native peoples, the best thing could have been, or could be, to keep the blood of the warrior race unpolluted.
For centuries, those who came from other continents mixed with the native women of America and then, the children of these mixtures began to classify us... Moor, mestizo, mulatto, Moorish, and some fools called us Indians believing that there were arrived in the lands of India; There are countless classifications for the mixture of races according to the "enlightened" ones of the colonizing eras.
Reading so much information I asked myself, What are we? What we became after centuries of colonization, classism, racism, colorism and denigration. Who are we if we were forced to hate our blackness. Who are we if they cut our ties with mother earth; They severed our ties to our dead, severed the bond of gratitude we had with our gods, and cut off the sound of our native language. Who are we?... What made me start loving my color in my twenties? Who told me that I am beautifully dark if, since I was a child, I was taught to hate the color of my skin; They taught me to detest anyone who was darker than me. Wow, I was stupid to believe that the words black, brown, Indian or indigenous were insults. With all that ancestral heritage on my skin and me denying my roots; But what could you expect from a teenager angry at not fitting into beauty standards in the '90s.
Today, with gratitude, at this point in my life, to be honest, I accept and love myself as a mixture; because this mixture inherited my wavy hair, my black eyes, my wide hips, my beautiful tanned skin and a petite size... because I am small, but spicy. My customs, my roots, and symbolically the place where I was born, define me as proudly Mexican... yes, proud, and over the years, Mexicans have fused our ancestral culture and customs in the most beautiful way. that the colonizers have imposed on us.
I'm mexican. You are Colombian. She is Peruvian... Cuban, Puerto Rican, Brazilian, Chilean, Ecuadorian, Salvadoran... all of America is a perfect mix of the past and the present; We are Native Americans, and the warrior blood of our ancestors predominated even after centuries of colonization. We are living proof of pre-Columbian glory. Love your tanned brown color.

Item descriptionAdriana is a Chicago artist born in Mexico. Since she was a child she had artistic inclinations; But it was not until his arrival in the United States, when he began to self-taught artistic techniques and experiment with American trends in visual art as well.
Even after 25 years living outside his country; Adriana never lost her strong Mexican roots. Seeking to calm his deep longing for his homeland; Use as main healing therapy: writing techniques, modeling, photography, digital art, traditional illustration, embroidery, canvas painting and muralism. Adriana has produced works privately since 2000 and it was not until 2013 that she began her public career. His works have been exhibited in: Los Pinos Cultural Center, Mexico State Airport, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo, New York, Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Pilsen, Back of the yards, Berwyn, Aurora, Hyde Park Arts Center. Other works are in private collections in California, Washington, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Texas, Nevada and Michigan and internationally in Japan, Australia, Spain, Germany and Ecuador. Currently, he is dedicated to continuing creating all types of visual art; but she also dedicates much of her time to supporting her community in Chicago, creating and giving workshops that bring people closer to their Mexican roots.
Although his work is largely inspired by his love for Mexico; It is also an expression of your personal belief and admiration, as well as respect and love for nature. These elements are an essential part of his current works of art.
